Bratz Life

Position: Artist
Platform: Handheld
Duration: January 2007 – March 2007

This game was made at MGA’s request for their Bratz doll line of product. The game was supposed to be a 6 month project that somehow ended up with 3 month time for the actual production time. It was a head-over-heels catch-up game all the way to the finish line. Even our dev-kit did not work properly. The only way to test anything in the game was to wait over night for the programmers to update and compile the full game, and make our best guess to fix any bugs. My responsibility was to design all interfaces, HUD elements and even some of the layout for the rest of the game.

These are the screens I have designed and created for the game. Some of them have slight differences from the final product, I will point them out.

Title Screen This is the final design of the title screen used in the game
Flash Opening This is the mockup of the title screen I first designed for the game using flash.
Cell Phone interface

This is the menu for the game. It is based on a cell phone interface, since the player will use a cell phone like controller to play the game. Here is the list of the menus in the image.

Home: allows the player to return to her bedroom.

Contacts: the player uses this list to invite friends to different place and events.

Horoscope: this gives hints to the player as the story progresses.

Calendar: this keeps track of the unattended events in the game.

Media: this contains a list of music which the player can unlock as the game progress.

Options: this is where the player saves and loads their game, and may change the volume of the SFX and background music.

Contact screen This is the submenu layout for contacts. Each contact has their personal icon, and name listed. The icons after the name are the options available for player. The envelope will allow the player to check on messages from NPCs in the game. However, this option was removed from the game before the game was finished. The chat box will let the player chat with NPC friends in the game. The shopping bag takes the player and the friend to the mall. The cup takes the player and the friend to the juice bar where they can meet new friends. The last one takes the player to the hair salon.
Language Selection screen

This screen is inserted for the European units.

Shop interface

This is the general layout for all the shops in the game.

This is one of the awards given to the player. The character in the center of the cover will be replaced with player’s own character.
This is also part of the awards given to the player, much like the cover, the character in the upper right section will be replaced with player’s own character.

These designs were created for a mini-game event in game. Since the area where the design goes on is tiny, I had to play with each pixel to make them look clear on the screen.

These are the background images for the runway mini game which never got used.
