Griffin

Back to School Work

Clay

This is the first clay model I've made, which I had to design and finish in 4 weeks. It is about 12"x12"x12", small enough to fit into my oven for baking. The clay is a mixture of Premo and SculpeyII which can be baked in a home oven at around 275 degrees. The worst part of this project was the feathers. Because the clay itself reacts to temperature by softening and becoming sticky, I had to struggle to keep the thin clay pieces in their shape and from sticking to my hands. -_-;;

17"x24" | Graphite on drawing paper
This was an exercise on backlighting. I did not think much about the detailing of the shaded portion of the griffin though. This is also my concept of the griffin maquette I did later on.

This is the original idea of the Griffin. The idea was very vivid at the time that I had to scramble everything done as fast as I can.
